Susan Point
The house’s site on a small peninsula in Horn Harbor off the Chesapeake Bay, is defined by its low elevation, proximity to shallow tidal creeks, and the surrounding pine forests. The original 19th century farmhouse had been subsumed by a series of haphazard additions that sprawled around the simple, two story wood structure. The design for the new three-bedroom home stripped that assembly down to the original farmhouse while adding a new living and dining contemporary pavilion. The old wood house contrasts the new brick and glass addition, emphasizing the traditional cellular organization of spaces, while the addition presents an open communal living space open to an expansive meadow surrounded by trees and water.
